Led by expert, Gemma Meharg, this 6-part webinar series for Scottish primary schools provides a step-by-step guide to understanding and introducing maths mastery in your school. Feel confident in your ability to use manipulatives, questioning and assessment and follow the ‘concrete, pictorial, abstract’ (CPA) approach.

  • Get to grips with the core concepts of mastery: Explore the theory and research around teaching maths for mastery, cementing your understanding of the key pedagogical approaches
  • Discuss what maths mastery looks like in a Scottish school: Examine case studies and explore the measurable benefits of implementing a mastery approach in your school
  • Model mastery lessons: Receive step-by-step guidance on how to model mastery lessons, including how resources can be used to effectively structure learning
  • Explore formative and summative assessment: Discuss how to create an assessment model for maximum impact on students’ learning
  • Move forward with maths mastery: Feel confident in your ability to continue following an effective mastery programme, with strategies for adapting and improving your model as you move forward

Meaningful and continuous professional development: this course is divided into 6 bite-size webinars, totalling 9 hours of CPD and taking place over a 6-month period from March to September 2022. Between each webinar you will have the chance to trial ideas in your classroom, ready to join the next session to discuss with Gemma and your fellow teachers what worked well, what you found challenging and generate strategies for improvement and ideas for best practice.
