Why attend?

Develop your knowledge and explore subject-specific pedagogies to support and enhance your Literacy and English lessons for CfE First Level.

Join expert course leaders, Joan Rutherford and Gemma Meharg, for a 6-part webinar series for Scottish primary schools that will provide step-by-step guidance to different theories and pedagogies for First Level Literacy and English and how these can be put into practice in your classroom.

  • Discuss creative strategies to support and challenge your students in all areas of Literacy
  • Examine three key areas of Literacy in turn – reading, writing, listening and talking – with one webinar looking at theory and pedagogical approaches with a follow up webinar that explores how to put the theory into practice
  • Build your subject knowledge and confidence to deliver engaging lessons and effective assessment opportunities that enable your students progress throughout First Level, whilst also fostering a love of reading

This course is divided into 6 bite-size webinars, totalling 9 hours of CPD and taking place over a 4-month period from September to December 2022. Between each webinar you will have the chance to trial ideas in your classroom, ready to join the next session to discuss with the course leaders and your fellow teachers what worked well, what you found challenging and generate strategies for improvement and ideas for best practice.
